Critical Reflection

Image
How do your groups represent social groups or issues? The main topic of our film is the situation of domestic violence. Domestic violence is a major issue in America. While actual murder is not incredibly common, physical and verbal abuse are far more common and affect many families across the country. Domestic violence is a current event in the news right now too. English footballer Mason Greenwood has been accused of domestic violence against his girlfriend. The fact that such a well known person could do this shows that there's much more that goes on in typical nuclear families. Our film sheds some light on this by portraying a situation in which the worst possible scenario could have happened. It brings some awareness to the cause. Our film also brings awareness to the topic of mental illness. The main character in our film, Dean, is clearly suffering from some kind of illness. It can help shed some light on the growing epidemic across the world. Perhaps an equal level problem

Final Movie Blog

All together, I'd say our movie came along nicely. It was a very nice group effort. Everyone had their own roles and exceeded in them, and we all put in our shift with the work. The website and postcard look great too. It is a cool feeling to semi experience what real movie directors and producers go through. https://tanichasaintigene.wixsite.com/thedrive Front of Postcard Back of Postcard

Production Blog: Last second error corrections

We are finished with everything. However yesterday we noticed some things we needed to fix up. Some of them are just fluidity changes. One is just a rules fix. The rules fix was a simple change. In one of the inside car scenes, our cameraman panned over too far. In the frame my school laniard was visible. Apparently we aren't allowed to have anything signaling our school in the film. So we simply trimmed the scene to cut out the laniard part. The other fix was a bit more but still easy to change. Basically we filmed my hand shifting into drive and put it after the stop short part. We didn't think it through too much when we did it. Now we can see it does not make sense and we had a different idea initially about where that small scene would go. So to fix this, I just reshot that one scene. Except this time, I filmed myself putting the car in park. Everything is finished now though. We published the film. We saved it and uploaded it. This film was a lot of fun to make. I hope t

Production Blog: Finishing Touches

Image
We are just about finished. There are just a few things we need to do. The filming is all finished for a while. The postcard is finished. The website is almost finished. We just need to link the completed film to it. As for the editing, it is almost done. All the scenes are together. The blackouts are added in. The music and sound is added in. The titles have all been added in. They have been timed accordingly. The one thing I want to add in is some shading. I would like to alter the color and brightness a bit at specific parts. I feel this would suit the tone of the film. The film is supposed to be like a bit suspenseful and mysterious. I feel lowering the brightness at parts could help get this across to the audience. Altering the color to make it less vibrant could help too. Since the last scene is a death scene, maybe adding in some hints of blue could add to the feeling. These small touches could enhance the experience significantly.

Production Blog: Almost Finished Editing

We are now adding the titles. We have a few things established. The actors names are established. I played the main character. A girl outside the group named Dara played Iris. I actually had to find out through other people what her last name is because I don't have her phone number to ask her. She is my sisters friend and volunteered to help out which is kind. Finally my dad played the driver. I didn't need to ask anyone what his last name is quite obviously. Sam decided to list me as director. He came to this decision since I did the filming. Technically, I did direct where to position the camera to the camera woman (my sister). However we had previously decided on the angles with our storyboard. Regardless, it was just for the title. I gave Sam creative discretion to name some of the other titles. He made up some company names for it. He probably named it relative to our group members. Meanwhile, Tanicha is doing the post card now. We are closing in on the end. It is coming

Production Blog: Editing More

Image
We have made more headway with filming. We have added in short black outs. The scenes are put together. There are a few additions now. We need to add in non diegetic and diegetic sound. We need a few sound effects. One of them is when the car hits someone. We need to add a thud noise for that. We also need to add light music in a few specific instances. These should be easy editing additions. Tanicha created the preview. It is featured on our website. It is about 30 seconds long. It shows some scenes from the film. It does not reveal too much. The idea is to not spoil the outcome of the film. It incorporates some music too. It also grasps the feel of the film. It makes it suspenseful. The website is basically finished now.

Production Blog: More Editing

We continue to edit. I have airdropped all of the clips to Sam. I took the videos on my phone. I airdropped it to Sam's phone. He converted them to his laptop. We have started piecing them together. When filming I recorded about 5 seconds under 5 minutes. This gives us some leeway. This way, he can add in some blackouts here and there. It will add to the filming element. It also won't be too congested. It will allow some time for the scenes to "breath". We are making sure they are all in order. We don't want anything to not make sense. There is also one scene where I wore a different color shorts. We have accommodated for this. To fix it, we have darkened the spot on the screen when they are visible. This should solve the issue. There is not much left to do. We should be finished soon.
